Rimmel 60 Seconds Nail Polish

I never really seek out new Rimmel nail polishes mostly because I only see one tiny side shelf display at CVS carrying the same few colors from the Lasting Finish line (which I understand is being discontinued), but recently I saw a huge counter display at Walgreens showcasing their 60 Seconds line of colors and featuring several spring-like pastels. They were only $1.69 so I thought I'd try a couple — purples, of course!
Sweet Lavender, two coats, no topcoat
Sweet Lavender is a nice pale purple that leans toward the red side. It's one of my more flattering colors but not terribly new or unique.
I Lilac You, two coats, no topcoat
I Lilac You (is it a rule that every polish manufacturer has to use this name on a lilac color?) is a pale purple that leans toward the blue side, also a favorite of mine but also not terribly new or unique.
Brush and bottle
The bottles are smaller at 0.27 fl oz rather than the usual 0.5 fl oz but the neck is wide enough that you're not trying to fit a full-sized brush into a mini bottle. The brush is medium-wide and short, but the cap is long so the brush is easy to use, although one of them was slightly angled so I had to be sure to hold it one certain way to use properly.

Application was easy on both, which was kind of surprising because pastels can be streaky and I was concerned about the quick-dry aspect of it making it worse. "60 Seconds" is a catchy name and it did dry fairly quickly, but not even close to one minute fast. They both dried shiny, but not the glossy shine that you get with a quick-dry topcoat. For $1.69 it's a good deal and they'd be great for when you don't have time for a full mani, but the colors were uninspired so don't feel that you need to rush out looking for the display.

Rainbow Honey Papillon & Summer Blossom Swatches

***Polishes sent for review.  All opinions are my own.***

Hello! I'm still here!  I finally had my baby and I've been trying to navigate life with two kids under the age of 3 and have had naked nails for first time in years!  But I managed to carve out some alone time and got some  Rainbow Honey swatching done and I'm super excited to show them to you.

Papillon is a gorgeous pink and purple glitter with pink holographic butterflies in a clear base with fine holographic sparkle.  My nails have been looking pretty healthy and this polish is so sweet and delicate that I decided to put it on my naked nails.  I LOVE how this turned out.  This is two coats.

Summer Blossom is a fun mix of yellow, orange and white flowers and yellow and orange and silver small glitter.  This polish is really fun and summery; it's RH July Special Release but it's still available.  I love it for a Polar Vortex Winter pick me up!  This is one coat over A England Her Rose Adagio.

What do you think of these sweet shades?  Rainbow Honey polishes can be purchased on their website. Keep up with new collections by liking them on Facebook and following their blog!

Pure Ice Scandal, old and new

When I saw Leslie's swatches of the new Pure Ice collection at Work/Play/Polish (I just love her swatches — I aspire to that level of manicure skills and photography!) I noticed there was a "new" color called Scandal, which was interesting because I'd recently used a Pure Ice Scandal that my sister had sent me a year or so back. The one that Leslie had swatched was definitely a dark chocolate brown while the one that I had was more of a deep burgundy. Ve-e-e-ery interesting… I've seen different colors of Pure Ice with the same name before, even at the same time, so I suppose they just decide to reuse favorite names whenever they like. Makes it tough for us bloggers, though!
"New" Scandal, two coats, no topcoat
The Walmart near me must have a new manager in the beauty supply section because recently they have been actually getting in the new polish collections, relatively close to when I start reading about them online. Before, they never even got them at all, so this is definitely a step up for them. So imagine my surprise and delight to see the very same collection that Leslie had recently reviewed! I scooped up Scandal, Shore Bet, and Happy Hour, although the latter looks a lot better on her than it does on me, so you won't be seeing that one here! But a chocolate-y Scandal? Yes, please!
Scandal, old and new
The older version of Scandal is still a nice vampy red and the crelly formula is pretty much the same on both, but I have to say that I definitely prefer the newer, browner version. Vampy reds are a dime a dozen, but a decent chocolate brown is hard to come by so this one is most welcome.
Same name, almost the same number, different color
If you want to be sure you get the browner Scandal, the label is a different shape and the number is just 983, whereas the older version has the round label and the number is 983CP and it just has Pure Ice on the bottle front instead of also having the Made in USA lines.

OPI Taupe-less Beach

I couldn't wait for the release of the new OPI Brazil Collection because the teaser photos looked so beautiful and there were new taupes! I need more taupes! But this time I was smart and brought my wheel swatches with me because I do already have so very many taupes and I'm running out of places to store them all. As it turns out, of the two I was most interested in I São Paulo Over There was almost identical to Rimmel Steel Grey (which I hear is being discontinued) so I ended up only getting Taupe-less Beach. It didn't match any that I'd swatched on a wheel although I have some other new ones that I haven't swatched yet so there may be a new comparison post coming up soon!
OPI Taupeless Beach
OPI Taupe-less Beach, two coats plus topcoat
How to describe this one? It sounds weird, but it's pinker and grayer than my other similar taupes, which is kind of like saying that it's both warmer and cooler but it's the closest way I can think to describe it. The formula was fine and cleanup was minimal, as you would expect with such a pale color. I reallyreallyreallyreally like these elegant neutrals and they make me realize that I need to upgrade my wardrobe to go along with them. The jeans, t-shirts, and sneakers that make up most of my daily wardrobe just pale in comparison to my fashionable nails!

Discount Discovery: Ulta Clearance of OPI!

It's been a while since I've seen anything good on the clearance shelf at Ulta so I was kind of excited to see two entire racks filled with OPI polishes! Three shelves of one rack were filled with the mini bottles of the Mariah Carey Holiday 2013 Collection, so I'm guessing that wasn't as popular as they thought it would be, but they also had Warm Me Up, which I got, and the white gold topper Pure was marked down to $15. But the collection that got my attention was the Miss Universe 2013 Collection because, well, purple!
I'm Feeling Sashy, two coats plus topcoat
My favorite of the two that I got is I'm Feeling Sashy, a deep, dusty lavender shade that is similar to the much sought-after Parlez-vous OPI, but quite a bit redder. I can't get enough of these dusty purples.
Miss You-niverse, two coats plus topcoat
The other one I got was Miss You-niverse, a rich, deep eggplant color that is perfect for this time of year. With careful application it could be a one-coater, so I can see this being a great base for nail art or stamping. And no staining!

I know that not all Ultas have the same products, but it's worth checking out their clearance shelves right now to see what they've got marked down, right?

SinfulColors Mauvelous

I have a mystery here for you; I was roaming through Walmarts because they finally got in some new polish collections — first time ever! — and found this single bottle of Mauvelous, only it was not even close to any mauve color I've ever seen. I did a web search and couldn't find anything on it, just a blurry bottle shot from someone's polish haul. At least that bottle was dark, so I guess it's correct and I don't have the only bottle in existence, but I have no idea of when it came out or what collection it was part of. BUT! It's a gorgeous color and I totally love it!
SinfulColors Mauvelous, two coats plus topcoat
The color is sort of between Nirvana and Smokin and, on the nails, it reminded me a lot of OPI Nein! Nein! Nein! OK, Fine! so I needed to compare the two, of course. In the bottles you can see that Mauvelous is way more purple when you see them side-by-side, although on my hands I would have sworn they were the same. (I'm wearing OPI Taupe-less Beach from the new Brazil Collection in the photo below, by the way, so look for a review of that soon.)
So here I have a mystery — a gorgeous dark taupe that is unlike any of the many other taupes I already have, so I was pretty excited about that. Can't have enough taupes, right? But it seems to be an orphan, other than that one other bottle in someone's haul. Any ideas on it's origin?

Even though I got this at Walmart, it would be remiss of me not to mention that Walgreens is having their 99¢ sale again this week for all SinfulColors and SinfulShine polishes, so head on over to stock up on some of the new colors that have come out recently. The SinfulShine line as also been marked down to $1.99, so if you miss the 99¢ sale they're still $1 cheaper from now on.

Blue Monday: Essie Parka Perfect and Comparisons

CVS recently had a great sale on nail polish and combining it with some CVS ExtraCare Bucks, I walked out with some great Essie colors that I had previously overlooked. I'm glad I did because they were gorgeous! Today I'm going to show you Parka Perfect, a soothing greenish-blue with subtle glass flecks, then I'll compare it to similar Essie shades (you knew I was going to have some, didn't you?)
Parka Perfect, two coats plus topcoat
Parka Perfect is so beautiful I don't know how I was able to resist when the Winter 2013 Shearling Darling Collection first came out. I guess I assumed that the glass flecks would stay in the bottle the way they so often do with Essie polishes, but I was wrong. While they are not as pronounced as they are in the bottle, you do get a satisfying amount on the nail and the effect is stunning. This goes in my favorites drawer!
Two coats each, plus topcoat
I have a couple of other blue-green/green-blue Essies that deserve a comparison. The closest one is Maximillian Strass-her, another favorite; the other is Who's The Boss?, which looks close in the bottle but dries much, much paler. It's hard to decide which one I like best...
