Discount Discovery: Revlon Blue Slate

Since Revlon has discontinued their Colorstay line in favor of their new Colorstay Gel Envy line, the Colorstay polishes have been showing up just about everywhere for varying discounted prices ranging from $3.99 at Ulta to $2.48 at Target to $1.49 at Job Lot. Today I'm going to show you the fabulous dusty — but still bright — Blue Slate.
Revlon Blue Slate, two coats plus topcoat
Ever since trying out the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel I've been comparing other polishes that claim to be long-wearing. This one lasted well over a three-day weekend using the Colorstay Gel-Smooth base coat and the Colorstay Gel-Shine Top Coat, which were also available at Job Lot but which disappeared pretty quickly.
The Colorfast Trio
The bottles for both the Colorstay line and the Gel Envy line are nearly identical and I found a Gel Envy in the Target clearance bin that may have been put there by accident so I will be doing a wear test on that when I go away next weekend to the Vermont Sheep & Wool Festival. There will be a lot of yarning going on so I expect my nails will put it through a thorough test!

KB Shimmer Fall 2014 & A Polished Cousins Reveal!

I’m baaaaaaaaaack! Hi everyone! Anna here. After a bit of a hiatus to get married and get in my groove for grad school, I’m here! I’m so excited to be able to share my picks from the new KB Shimmer Fall Collection. OK Let's get into it-

KB Shimmer Fall Collection

Raisin to Live- Deep and dark, A Raisin To Live is a deep burgundy, blacken Ox Blood colored polish full of holographic sparkles.  If you love Witch Way, try her vampy cousin

This polish is GORGEOUS. The formula is a little syrupy so I needed to be careful with coats to make sure the color is even. I used 3 coats so everything was even but it was squishy and jelly-like at 2 coats. I think it dried fast for a jelly too.

How You Dune?- Like sands through the hourglass, this “greige” polish is a perfect blend of creamy beige and a light grey, offering full coverage in 1-2 coats.  Depending on lighting and skin tone, this work perfect neutral can shift to accent the gray or the beige undertones

This was my first time using a crème from an indie and How You Dune? Just blew me away. Full, even coverage in ONE coat. I couldn’t believe it! I used two coats because it’s habit and I wanted to make sure this mani lasted. I need more crèmes from KB Shimmer.

In case you were wondering, because I was, How You Dune? Is not a dupe for Zoya Dove. It is a shade or two lighter and warmer

Leaf of Faith- The crisp feel of the air, apple pies baking, trees showing off a kaleidoscope of reds, burgundies and gold, it is no wonder fall is my favorite season.  Leaf Of Faith my homage to the glorious Sweetgums and Sugar Maples, and all the others trees that star in natures fall show.  A deep Cabernet red jelly is the backdrop for glitters in red, orange and gold.  The glitters in this polish add depth and interest with subtle changes in color as the jelly picks up the colors of the glitter. A scattering of holographic glitters gives this polish sparkle and shine.

I struggled a little with this one. It’s so filled with glitter that I had some application issues. I think with careful method, you could get this polish to go on evenly with 2 coats but I needed 3 for the swatches here.

Rust No One- This orange, rusty, red leaning pumpkin color is ideal for fall.  With its linear holographic rainbow, Rust No One is beautiful indoors and out.  This holographic polish covers well in 2-3 coats

Look at that holo shimmer! So pretty. Orange makes my camera scream so I had a hard time getting this color correct. The second image is closest to how it looks in real life. I used 3 coats for the swatches below.

Up and Cunning- A deep teal, almost forest green in color, Up & Cunning is perfect in 2-3 coats.  In the sun or bright light, this linear holographic beauty just shines with rainbow goodness

This polish is jam packed with holo goodness and pigment. I was almost able to get full jelly coverage in 1 coat. I used 2 coats for full opacity.

And because I love all of our readers so much, I wouldn’t be able to come back without showing you all some wedding pictures and *GASP* a picture of us, The Polished Cousins! All of these pictures are courtesy of my amazing wedding photographers, Richard + Tara Photography.  They are old friends of mine and they are just so talented. I couldn’t be happier with how our photos turned out. If you’re in need of photographer in the Maryland, DC, or Pennsylvania areas, check them out!

So I'm obsessed with my wedding hair. It was just perfect. Every time I look at wedding pictures I tell my husband that I want to get married again so that I can have that hair again. I also painted my nails RIGHT before putting my dress on. I had painted them for the rehearsal dinner the night before but I wasn't totally in love with it so I wanted to redo it in the morning and almost ran out of time. You can see my best friend behind me getting her hair done as I'm finishing clean-up on my mani in these pictures. I ended up wearing OPI- Love.Angel.Music.Baby. with a shiny top coat and I loved it so much!

I also made my own bouquet out of brooches for the wedding. It was the biggest wedding project and I didn't finish it until the night before the wedding. My family and friends all brought brooches to my shower so my bouquet ended up being my "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" all in one piece! Oh, and it weighed over 4 pounds.

During the ceremony when the best man was supposed to give the rings to the rabbi, we realized he didn't have them! My dad got distracted by the chaos before the ceremony and never got to give them to him. This picture is of my dad delivering the rings to the chuppah and it was my absolute favorite moment of the whole day. I was laughing the whole time!

This is when we read from our ketubah, a sort of Jewish marriage contract. My husband's daughter stayed with us at the chuppah for the whole ceremony.

And the moment you've all been waiting for, The Polished Cousins! Here is Erin and Anna (me!) showing off our manis. The photographer made us pose like this and we told him it's not a real blogger pose. Then we showed him how the bottle hold works and we went to find Robin for a full group picture!

We don't all get to see each other more than a couple of times a year and we had such a great time at the wedding. I'm so happy to be able to share these pictures with you all and to be back blogging with my cousins!
