Discount Discovery: OPI Black Satin

While on a weekend getaway to Vermont with some friends I spotted a Big Lots near our hotel and I forced them to stop in so I could check out any nail polish that might be in stock because the two near me never get in any of the good ones I keep reading about other bloggers finding. While, unfortunately, they didn't have Essie's elusive Starry, Starry Night, (OK, that was a while ago, but hey! this was Vermont!) they did have a few bottles of OPI Black Satin. I pulled out my iPhone to do some research and saw that it was selling for $23 on Amazon!!! I should get them all!!! Oh, all right...  It's also selling for $5.50 on some other sites but I like to think I found a bargain and at $1.80 it is, isn't it?
OPI Black Satin, three coats plus top coat

The formula was thin so, although it covered fairly well with two coats, I felt it could use a third for close-up pictures and the photo shows that it's still pretty thin at the tips. The color is an interesting deep slate blue-gray with silver shimmers and over a ridge-filling base coat I had no problems with brush strokes. I'm not sure I would wear this one a lot but it does lend itself to some interesting possibilities for layering. Or maybe resale on Amazon...

  1. Nice find! This is a gorgeous color. I have yet to find anything exciting at my Big Lots, so it would be awesome to find OPI polishes.

    1. I can sympathize! I only have two Big Lots in my area and both are at least 45 minutes away. Neither of them has ever had a big name brand so this was kind of exciting.

    1. Lucky! I also got a bottle of Sally Hansen Mudslide for $1 which was cool because I like the color but not enough to pay much more that $1 for it.

    1. Thanks! I like how the blue and silver highlights give it more dimension that just a straight black.

  5. I found the same color at my local Big Lots! As soon as I realized it was an OPI I dove right into the make up section to search for more. Alas it was the last OPI bottle. I have found treasures at Big Lots before: Cover Girl "Goddess", Rimmel "Titanium", and lots of the scented Revlons.
