NOTD: Zoya Ziv and Sally Hansen Gilded Lily comparison

Just a quick post to show the differences between two popular new gold polishes — Ziv, from the new Zoya Ornate collection, and Gilded Lily, from the Target exclusive Sally Hansen Designer Collection that came out earlier this summer.

Not even close...
At first I thought they would be very similar, but seeing them next to each other I think that Gilded Lily seems flashier and almost gaudy in its brightness. I probably should have done a third coat on each of them, but I was too lazy. Sorry. Ziv has a base of micro glitters that fills in around the larger glitters so the coverage is denser and flatter overall, but it does make the larger glitters stand out, giving it a grittier texture. Gilded Lily is just the larger glitters, so the texture is the same overall and makes it seem more like hammered metal. I have one coat of Gealous over all of them in this photo but it does soak in so you will need a few coats if you want a smooth finish.

Do you need both? Well, there's no denying that they are both very festive and if you do a lot of partying over the holidays, or if you just like gold, then you might want both. If I had to choose I think I'd go with Ziv because the finish just seems classier and less Vegas showgirl, although I have to say that I was pretty impressed with Gilded Lily until I tried Ziv, so maybe I'm just fickle. Gilded Lily is a brighter yellow-gold so it might come down to which gold looks best against your own skin tone.

In any case, happy holidays!
