Essie Smokin' Hot

When Erin reviewed Sation BYOBottle there was a comment asking how it compared to other purple-brown-gray-taupey shades, including Essie Smokin' Hot. Since BYOBottle is down in Maryland and I'm not, going by her photos I think that it comes closest to Parlez-Vous OPI so I will do a comparison post later on using that color as the stand-in for BYOBottle, but I think I can safely say that Smokin' Hot is so much darker than the others that it doesn't belong in the comparison and I'm giving it its own review.
Essie Smokin' Hot
This color does lean slightly toward purple, but it's far closer to colors like Zoya Petra (those two are nearly dupes, with Petra being just slightly lighter.) As Erin said, these are the new go-to neutrals for fall and, with so many to choose from, there's bound to be at least one for every skin tone.

Essie polishes are thin, but not too thin, so they apply easily and usually cover with two coats. I may be wrong on this, but I think that's why they wear so well. I wore this mani long enough to get bored with it, so I spiced it up with a layer of Ozotic 534 before I took it off.
WOW! Look at those holos!
The nice thing about neutrals is that you can play around with them and they allow the other polishes to shine — you can see what a great supporting player Smokin' Hot is for Ozotic 534!

  3. I think I have Smokin' Hot. Could you suggest other dupe for Parlez-Vous (besides Sation BYOBottle). I can't get Sation where I'm from. Thanks.

    1. Sephora's Metro Chic is the closest I have to Parlez-Vous OPI, although it has a more pronounced gray cast to it.
