Last year, Spring 2011 to be exact, OPI released the Texas Collection. Of the twelve new shades in the collection, 6 of them were jellies! I thought a lot of the jellies in the Texas Collection were a little too close to one another so I only own a few of them. So I compared what I have :)
First up, Zoya Coraline vs OPI Y'all Come Back Ya Hear?
Swatches show three coats of each, no top coat.
These bright colors are difficult to photograph so I showed the comparisons against each bottle.

Verdict- Total dupes on the nail. During application the formula was different. It's hard to describe but one might be a tad more pigmented than the other, one might lean a little warmer than the other, I really can't pinpoint the exact difference. It's just obvious they didn't come from the same batch of polish. But do you need Coraline if you have Y'all Come Back Ya Hear? Nope.
Next up is Zoya Kate vs OPI Big Hair... Big Nails
Three coats each, no top coat
I had the same difficulty photographing these so I took photos against each bottle again

Verdict- Total dupes on the nail. Again! I suppose Kate is a half of a smidge lighter than Big Hair Big Nails. I saw the same subtle formula differences during application that I did with the oranges but just like before, it's not exactly noticeable once dry. Do you need both? I'd say not.
I freaking LOVE the finishes on these colors and am more than thrilled to have them all in my collection. Now I think I need to complete my collection of Texas jellies! They look like hard candy on your nails. So squishy and shiny.
I had a lot of fun playing with these colors and I still have ANOTHER post coming up featuring the Blogger Trio. Stay tuned!

great post! i really love comparison posts :) thanks for this one in particular, i was ALMOST thinking of buying these but now i don't need to! thanksssss
ReplyDeleteHaha no problem! My local Ulta had the Texas collection on clearance.
DeleteI didn't buy these, mostly because I'm not a huge fan of orange. But Wow! These are dead on dupes! I'm surprised at the similarity, especially since this was supposed to be a LE collection that in my opinion should have been very unique given the fact that they were marketed as the "blogger" collection!
ReplyDeleteIn the blogger's defense, a bunch of bloggers submitted color ideas before Zoya came up with colors THEN every voted. But still...
DeleteGreat post! I'm not buying this set. Think they could have put together more fun colors.
ReplyDeleteI really love the colors together and Belle is a great addition. I wish they sold it on its own!
DeleteWhat's a jellie? I feel so lost and alone without this knowledge.
ReplyDeleteSort of somewhere between a sheer and a creme polish. Jelly polishes start with thick clear bases instead of white or colored bases. They almost look squishy on the nail and don't need top coats most of the time because they tend to dry super shiny.
DeleteJust like jelly! A dark purple jelly will look like you painted your nails neatly with Welch's Concord Grape. Don't eat them!
So gorgeous! I'm obsessed with jellies! Great comparison!
