Turquoise effect!

As the weather warms and the days lengthen, I wanted to get some brighter colors on my nails so I went for the very beachy Now You Sea Me by L'Oreal. It's the perfect shade of turquoise! (I read somewhere that turquoise is the best color for bridesmaids dresses because it's flattering to almost any skin tone. Just so you know...)

Isn't it gorgeous? So summery! Makes me want to don a starched cotton frock! The application was pretty good, although I did see some bald spots on my ring finger. I'd planned an accent layer, though, so I wasn't going to obsess about it.
L'Oreal Now You Sea Me & Essie As Gold As It Gets
Anna and Erin had been raving about the Essie Luxeffects so, naturally, I just had to go scout them out in my area. It was already on clearance at my CVS so I couldn't find the Shine Of The Times that Erin liked so much (must have been really popular!) but I grabbed As Gold As It Gets because, well... clearance! I thought it might make a nice accent nail over the blue because I'd seen it layered over Zoya Kristen over on Polishaholic and thought it looked amazing (but I didn't want to copy that exactly.) I've always used flakies over darker polishes and never thought to use them on lighter ones, let alone a gold over blue, so I was interested to see the outcome.
A single accent nail
I absolutely loved the effect! It looked like the raw turquoise stones you find at those trading post kinds of tourist shops. I loved it so much I had to do all my nails and not just an accent.
In all its full splendor!
Even though this started out as a summery kind of manicure, with the gold flakes I can see it as a great holiday treatment, too. I wore this for a full three days before I started to get bored with it, and even then it was more because the tip wear was starting to get noticeable (but don't forget how hard I am on manicures, what with all the keyboard tapping and all.) I think I need to go out and get some sundresses or something to go with this...

  4. So pretty! I need to go check my CVS clearance now! I've been looking for the Luxeffects and only found Shine of the Times, but I'm on the diet so I had to pass it up. I really think I need to find them both now! Gorgeous combo!

    1. Check different CVS stores; I was able to find Shine of the Times at one in a different town. And get a CVS ExtraCare card, too, if you don't have one, so you can get discount coupons. Sign up for their BeautyClub, too, for even more coupons! I just downloaded the CVS app to my iPhone and got a 20% discount coupon when I logged in. Now I need to BUY ALL THE POLISHES!!!

    2. Oh, I'm at CVS every week. Trust me, but I only have 2 stores and that rarely keep their essie stocked it seems. I'm just not in a good area... it's always hit or miss. And I am an avid couponer so I'm signed up for all of those. :o)

    1. Isn't it, though? I was thinking it was too bright when I first bought it, but that was back in mid-winter, when everything was drab and gray. Now it's perfect!
