Effie Trinket nails and a serious birthday weekend haul!

Long, pic heavy post ahead. This birthday weekend was good to me and I wanted to share it with all of you :)

I saw The Hunger Games over the weekend and I couldn't help but notice Effie's nails throughout the movie. Some of the designs were a bit too intricate for my tastes, but this one was right up my alley.

This is the scene in the beginning where Effie draws a name during the reaping to select someone to participate in the Hunger Games from District 12. I had to find the picture from the back, there were lots showing the name on the other side and I didn't want to be all spoilery.

Here is what I used- butter LONDON- Queen Vic, Color Club- Gingerbread Man and a regular every day makeup sponge. Once I painted on my base of Queen Vic, I dropped a blob of Gingerbread Man on the edge of the sponge and dabbed it along the tip of my nail to make a gradient effect. I had to go back and do a second layer to make sure the tips were completely opaque. The best thing about using a makeup sponge is that once you are done and the polish has dried on the sponge, just rip the dried part off and throw it away. The sponge is still usable!

I'll admit, I was a bit sloppy when I applied Queen Vic and it wasn't the easiest polish to clean up. My fault though.

I'm so happy with the way this manicure came out, I'm actually wearing it for a second day! That NEVER happens.

And now onto my ridiculous haul from the weekend. Some of these were finds (birthday treats for myself) and some of these were gifts (birthday treats from others!). At least everyone knows what I like. :)
Confetti- Tazmanian Devil, Revlon- Radiant, Milani Jewel FX- Gold, Wet N Wild- Blackmail
These arrived with my boyfriend on Friday :)

Color Club Electro Candy collection set from Ross for $7.99! These neons dry matte so the set comes with the blue-tinted topcoat you see on the end there. Also, each color has an awesome green shimmer! From left to right- Volt of Light, What a Shock, Electro Candy, Tangerine Scream, Ultra Violet, Pure Energy

Ulta haul
butter LONDON- Disco Biscuit has been on my list since it came out. A bright pink jelly with blue sparkles? Yes please! I also got Orly- Lunar Eclipse and when I got home I realized how it's almost identical to OPI- DS Magic. I love DS Magic and it's one of my favorite polishes that I own so I think Robin and I are going to do a little Orly swap on this one. On the end is Sally Hansen- White Veil. It's one of their new Jewel Overcoats from their Diamond Strength line. I kept calling it "the almond cookies polish" because the colors and texture reminded me of the almond slices I use for baking. This one is going to make a great jelly sandwich! It has small pearl white hex glitter and larger gold hexes in a clear base. Perfect for layering.
CVS haul
I've seen Spoiled- Are Mermaids Real? all over the blogs and while I hate Spoiled's brush (it's thick, fat and uneven), I can't deny this is a gorgeous color. Milani- Beach Front from their new collection. Robin just posted about another color from the same collection, Sail Away. Wet n Wild- Blue Wants To Be A Millionaire and Hannah Pinktana are sheer scattered holos. Each costs $1.99 and they are holo. Duh, of course I bought them. And last is Milani 3D Holographic- HD, a silver scattered holo.

My friend Becky from Naked Without Polish came to my surprise birthday brunch on Sunday with this scented Peeps set from Claire's! LOVE it! I've never tried a scented polish so I swatched them all on a nail wheel. They really smell like candy!

After brunch, my boyfriend and I stopped by Walgreens to see if they had any of the new Sinful Colors sheer shimmers. And they did! I grabbed a bunch of Spring pastels and when I got home I realized they make a rainbow.

Boogie Nights, Luminary, Firefly, Mint Apple

Sweet Dreams, Morning Star, Flutter

Do you guys want to see the bottoms of the bottles/labels regularly? I keep the color numbers listed on my stash list so I like having them available, but obviously the pictures aren't much to look at. Also the wholesale store Erin and I go to organizes their shelves by number so I've got to keep up!

Speaking of Erin and the wholesale store, she made a quick shopping stop there the other day and picked up these China Glaze Prismatics for me.

Since I ended up falling in love with the Wet N Wild Prismatics dupe Erin got me when she was in New York, I figured I'd like to try the real ones. Here are Polarized and Optical Illusion.

I saved the best for last. As a birthday gift, Erin got me a REAL Konad stamping plate (I've only used fauxnads so far!) and China Glaze-LOL from their OMG Collection. I've been seriously coveting this collection and I need them all. Of course they sell for $15+ a piece on eBay. This one is my first!!!

A dark purple holo! LOVE it! I can't wait to try this out and post pictures. I swatched it on a nail wheel and it was opaque in one coat. Couldn't believe it. Best birthday weekend ever!

I also added a Bloglovin button to our page. Just to give those of you who can't use Google Friend Connect anymore a way to follow our blog. Remember, when we hit 100 followers, we will have a giveaway!!!

  1. My goodness! You DID have a good bday weekend!! You deserve nothing less though! I'm surprised you didn't have to make a trip to IKEA for a new storage unit! I'm seriously in love with that mani! I bought new make up sponges, and after using realize I don't like these for make up. I may have to put them aside and use them on my nails! You're just full of inspiration!

    1. Happy to be of service! I saw another blogger post that she uses clean eye shadow applicators for sponging too. Obviously not reusable, but I picked up a pack of them at Big Lots for $1 anyway.

My mom gave me a little Rubbermaid organizer so I can get everything that isn't actually nail polish out of my Helmer. Cuticle sticks and nail art supplies were taking up precious storage space!

    2. That's awesome! I still need to get something to hold my polishes. LOL What doesn't fit on my wall shelf is on the floor. Maggie loves playing in them though!

Nominated you guys for an award!

    1. I may have overdone it a bit! I even did a little dusty hunting today and managed to find two more (!) OMG colors. I think my untrieds now outnumber my tried polishes. Too much too soon!

  3. Fabulous job on the mani, Anna! I have the Milani 3D Holo HD and it's terrific, as are the others. I think I have three from that collection. I am definitely going to have to look for those Peeps polishes, although they are too cute to take out of the package.

    1. I have been enjoying the Wet 'n' Wild polishes! I don't have those colors but I have Teal of Fortune in the Fast Dry and I love it. That color is stunning. I do have several of the Wild Shine polishes.
