Essie Merino Cool

Essie Merino Cool
I picked this one up after seeing it featured on Chloe's Nails blog — it looked like a nice taupe with a touch of purple in it. In the bottle, that's exactly what it was but on my nails it didn't have quite the same quality. It was extremely similar to OPI's You Don't Know Jacque and since I prefer the flow and application of the OPI polishes to those of Essie, I think this one's a tosser.

Is OPI vs Essie like Mac vs PC or Nikon vs Canon? You love one but not the other? I look at my collection of polishes and the OPI bottles outnumber the Essie's 3 to 1. I think the larger brushes on the OPI bottles has a lot to do with it because the skinny Essie brushes mean I have to make more strokes to cover my nails and the polish consistency is such that it begins to dry enough to the point that they start to glop as I do so. The colors are nice, though, and if I had my nails done at a salon I'd probably like them better, but as a DIYer I think I really have to like the color and it has to be unique to Essie for me to choose them.
